Where Should I Host My Blog?
Okay, so you’ve found the perfect niche; one you’re really interested in and one that you’ve discovered others are interested in too.
The next step is deciding on just where you should host your blog.
There’s a couple of ways you can go about this - using either free or paid hosting.
While free hosting has one major advantage - It’s Free - it has many downsides too, but if you don’t want to pay to host your sites for whatever reason it’s what you’ll have to do. There are some good free hosting sites out there if that’s the path you choose to take, but there’s a couple of things you’ll want to watch out for:
Do they put their own advertising on the site and do they allow you to put any form of income stream on it?
Do they have a cpanel of some form (a control panel that allows you to upload things and gives you a variety of applications - such as fantastico)
And most importantly do they have or can you upload a WordPress blog? (A WordPress blog really is a must if you want to earn online - it has way more advantages than any other blogging provider)
One such free hosting provider I know of that has all this is freehostia.
Then there’s Paid Hosting. For those that want to build an online business then this is the way to go. Yes it might cost but the advantages of having your own hosting are huge, two major advantages being: You get control over your own blog and don’t run the risk of having it deleted as can happen with free hosting. Depending on the host you choose you can set up unlimited sites and blogs so you can create many different niches.
There are of course many more but they’re the major ones. Again when looking for a paid host you’ll want to make sure you have cpanel and fantastico etc (don’t worry if you don’t understand those terms - we’ll go into them in more detail later)
I personally use Hostgator to host my sites and have never had a problem with them, but there are many more available to you such as Lunarpages etc so take the time and have a look around
Before you decide on a host though you’ll want to take the time to come up with a domain name - which will be covered in the next post.
